Belagavi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government has given priority to farmers by importance to organic farming across the country by providing several schemes to the Agriculture Sector in the Budget. Rajya Sabha MP Eranna Kadadi welcomed the Union Budget stating that the allocation of Rs. 5,300 Crore in the Budget for the Upper Bhadra Project, an ambitious irrigation project in the State, would be a boon for the farmers of the State.

In a press release on the Amrit Kala Budget presented by the Union Government on Wednesday February 1, he stated that the Budget for 2023 – 24 is conducive to agriculture, education, health, industry, technology, skill development and infrastructure development.

“Steps have been taken to improve the cropping system of millets including ragi. The National Institute of Millet Research has been provided with the necessary assistance to conduct the research and document the best cropping practices,” he added.

Clean seedling programme for increasing the yield of horticultural crops and improving cropping system aimed at introducing state-of-the-art technology in the Agriculture Sector, setting up of agriculture accelerator fund to promote agri-start-ups by young entrepreneurs, and announcement of a new fund to promote agri-start-ups is being undertaken, he noted.

He added that one crore farmers will be helped to adopt natural farming in the next three years. The Government has also proposed to increase the agriculture credit target to Rs. 20 Lakh Crore by laying emphasis on animal husbandry, dairying and fisheries. He emphasised that the country’s agriculture sector has been growing at an average annual growth rate of 4.6 per cent in the last six years.
