Bidar: Sugarcane crops worth Rs. 3 Lakh of Farmer Vinayak Keroba Halahalle was burnt after an electric wire was snapped in nearby Davargaon Village.

The villagers tried to douse the fire themselves as soon as the fire broke out. But they could not extinguish the fire. They immediately called the Fire Brigade. By the time the Fire Brigade personnel arrived, half of the sugarcane fields had been gutted in the fire.

The electric wires passing over the field were hanging. Due to this, the wires came in contact and the fire broke out due to a short circuit.

Rajashekar Sherikar of the Village is upset that he informed the GESCOM Officials about the dangling electricity wires but to no avail. The reason for the fire on sugarcane field is the negligence of the GESCOM officials, villagers alleged. Hence, the villagers have demanded more compensation for the farmers who are in distress.
