Chamarajanagara: Swaraj India President Yogendra Yadav has said that it is the duty of young farmers’ organisations to fight against the PTA (Pre-Trade Agreement), which is yet another facet of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), which was detrimental to farmers.
He was speaking at a function organised by the Rajya Raitha Sangha to mark the 87th birth anniversary of Vishwa Raitha Chetana P. M. D. Nanjundaswamy at Nandi Bhavan in City.
Like Kishan Patnaik, who was at the forefront of the Peasant movement in North India, Nanjundaswamy thought on the same basis. In the 1980s, when the Government signed the GATT and Dunkel proposal, there was a situation where the existence of agriculture was over. Prof. M. D. Nanjundaswamy, the focal point of the protest, said that if multinational companies come into the country, the country will move towards development. “At that time, Nanjundaswamy fought that multinational companies were detrimental to the development of the country and not conducive,” he said.
