Chikkamagaluru: For the last 18 years, I have been holding BJP banners, tying flags and carrying various slogans and not given my due, said Former City Corporation President H. D. Thammaiah, who had demanded a BJP ticket from Chikkamagaluru Taluk against sitting MLA C. T. Ravi.

He bid a goodbye to the BJP and held a secret meeting with his supporters to join the Congress. On Friday February 17, he held a meeting with disgruntled close friends at a private hotel in the City. More than 500 Lingayat leaders and BJP workers led by H. D. Thammaiah have decided to quit the BJP and join the Congress.

“With Thammaiah resigning from the BJP, the defection process has begun in the BJP. But, I will join the Congress without any demand. Six people have already applied for tickets. Gayathri Shantegowda has not done it. Let them and I do a survey together. We will also conduct a survey in the names of eight people,” he said.
