Hassan: In a tragic incident, paddy straw and arecanut saplings were completely gutted in a fire.
About four acres of paddy straw belonging to Chandregowda of Naganahalli Village under Hunugunahalli Gram Panchayat limits in the Taluk was completely gutted in the fire on the evening of Tuesday February 7.
When the villagers came to know about the incident, they tried hard to douse the fire. Later, firefighters reached the spot and managed to douse the fire.
Gram Panchayat Vice-President Harish said that the fire was spreading mostly in Malnad regions and the poor family’s hard-earned paddy straw worth Rs. 3 Lakh was completely destroyed. He appealed to the Government to provide immediate compensation to the farmers whose crops worth lakhs of rupees, including arecanut, banana and coconut, have been destroyed.
