Islamabad: Pakistan National Assembly takes up no-confidence motion proceedings against Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan today following Supreme Court directions.

Supreme Court has quashed the Pakistan President’s order dissolving the National Assembly, directed the Prime Minister Imran Khan to face not trust vote in the House.

If no trust vote is adopted, Imran Khan might become the first PM to be removed through a no-trust vote.no Prime Minister was removed by the trust vote in past.

“It is the constitutional right of the Opposition to move a no-confidence motion against the government, and it’s the government’s duty to defend it” said Foreign Minister and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in National Assembly

“I hope you (Speaker) will carry out today’s proceedings of the House as per the Supreme Court order. I urge you to stand for the Constitution and law. You must catch this moment with your conviction”, said Shahbaz Sharif, Leader of Opposition in Pakistan National Assembly

Mr Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has lost the majority in the assembly earlier this month when a key coalition partner said its seven lawmakers would vote with the opposition. More than a dozen lawmakers from the ruling party indicated they would cross over.

The opposition have claimed that they more than 172 votes in the 342-seat assembly, which needs a quarter of members present for a quorum and they can form the government.

In an address to the Nation, the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the people of Pakistan to protect the country’s sovereignty. He asked the people to hit the streets on Sunday and peacefully protest against an “imported government”.

Worried about the Supreme Court order, Imran Khan blamed that foreign powers are trying to topple his government and Pakistan’s lawmakers are being traded like sheep to accomplish this.

Directly blaming the US to topple his government, Imran Khan accused that “We got to know that US diplomats were meeting our people. Then we got to know about the entire plan,”

Further Mr. Khan added that he is not at the liberty to publicly release all the details owing to national security concerns and he slammed the country’s media, accusing it of “celebrating” the government’s fall.

Further, he accuses that the foreign powers want a pliable PM and that’s why they are trying to push him out. Foreign power’s attempt to topple his government is nothing but to attack on the sovereignty of Pakistan. “We are 22 crore people. It is insulting that someone from outside is ordering this to 22 crore people,” he said.

The Supreme Court on Thursday quashed the move by PM Khan to block a parliamentary vote seeking to oust him.

The dismissal of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan was “unconstitutional”, the Supreme court has stated in its order.  said. It reconstituted the national assembly and ordered the Speaker to call a session.

If Mr Khan loses, the opposition could nominate its own Prime Minister and hold power until August 2023, by which date fresh elections have to be held.
