Minister of the Social Welfare Department and Backward Classes Welfare Department Kota Srinivasa Pujari, who is also the leader of the ruling party in the state legislative council, made this announcement.

Replying to a question raised by MLC from Dakshina Kannada Pratap Simha Nayak, he said that presently day care centres and old age homes are operated in all 30 districts with the help of Non-Governmental Organisations. The State Government decided to increase yearly support from Rs.8 lakh to 12 lakh for these centres. “As the problem of senior citizens increasing now old age homes is proposed at the hobli level,” he informed.

With India poised to become the world’s biggest country of senior citizens in the next few years, providing the required support to senior citizens will be the biggest challenge in front of the government.
