Dharwad: The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on L&T company for not fulfilling its contract agreement in providing drinking water supply and maintenance services in the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad. The decision was taken in a general meeting of the Corporation, following complaints from its members and the public.
Mayor Iresh Anchatgeri blamed KUIDFC and PMC for failing to verify adequately whether L&T was fulfilling its contractual obligations. He stated that despite discussions with KUIDFC and PMC officials, there had been no progress in resolving the issue, which had resulted in continuous complaints from the public about water problems. The officials were not seen to be taking responsible action to solve the problem, which had prompted the Mayor to hold L&T officials responsible and impose a fine of one crore rupees on the firm.
The Mayor has instructed L&T to repair all the borewells in the twin cities within the next 15 days and to solve the water supply problems. The imposition of the fine indicates the seriousness with which the municipal corporation views the water supply issue and its determination to ensure that the public’s needs are met.
