Mangaluru: As many as 68,951 non-movement vehicles have been added to the list of expired vehicles in the Coastal areas in the last four years.
Of these, 48,522 were in Mangaluru, Bantwal and Puttur RTO limits in Mangaluru District and 20,429 in Udupi. These include non-moving two-wheelers and light motor vehicles that have crossed the age of 15 years from the date of registration.
At present, around 14.3 lakh vehicles in the State have crossed the deadline. The State Government has already approved the proposal for the draft “Karnataka Scrappage Policy – 2022” submitted for setting up of registered vehicle scrapping centres (RVSPs) for scrapping such vehicles.
Accordingly, the process of scrapping of private and government vehicles that have completed 15 years of age will begin.
