Mangaluru: A one-year-old female leopard cub, which fell into a well two days ago on Sunday February 12, was rescued and lifted up by a veterinarian inside a cage.

The well was more than 30 feet deep and the cub was hiding in a big hole on one side of the well and could not even get into the cage dropped by the Forest Department. At that time, on the call of the Department, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, an expert veterinarian at the NGO Chitte Pili Wildlife Rescue Centre, Dr. Yashasvi Naravi arrived along with Dr. Meghna Dr. Prithvi, and Dr. Nafisa at the spot. Dr. Meghna sat inside the cage holding an anaesthesia-loaded dart gun.

The Forest Department staff and the villagers joined together and got her into a well. This is an anaesthetic experiment. The leopard was again put into the cage by the Forest Department staff. After coming out of the well, it was administered an injection to regain consciousness and as soon as it recovered, it was taken to a dense forest by the Forest Department and released.

Conservator of Forests Satish N., Range Forest Officer Hemagiri Angadi, Sub-Range Forest Officer Manjunath Ganiga and staff participated in the operation
