Mangaluru: Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje said that the import of arecanut from abroad at a low price had upset the growers of the State and severely affected the price of arecanut in our State. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government has issued an order increasing the import price of arecanut crop imported from abroad to provide justice to our arecanut growers.
The minimum import rate has been increased to Rs. 251 to Rs. 351 with a hike of Rs. 100. She said “Henceforth, if you import arecanut from any country, you will have to pay a price higher than Rs. 351.”
“This order of the Modi Government will help in ensuring a higher price for arecanut to our farmers in the domestic market,” she said.
