Mangaluru: Ullal has been a place of unity since the time of Veerarani Abbakka. It was Kunjalikutty Manikaran of Kerala who took the help of Abbakka to fight against the Portuguese. He had responded to Abbakka’s call and gave a helping hand and defeated the Portuguese. At that time, there was no distinction between Hindus and Muslims, said Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje.

Presiding over the Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava 2022-23 held at Mahatma Gandhi Ranga Mandir under the auspices of Ullal Veerarani Abbakka Utsava Samiti here on Saturday February 4, she said that only after independence, there were gaps between castes. However, such ideas of solidarity should be communicated to the next generation through a theme park and added that the freedom fighters like Veerarani Abbakka of Ullal, Kittur Rani Chennamma are the driving force for the women of our State. “The festival of Abbakka should not be restricted to Ullal alone. The State Government should come forward to celebrate the festival of freedom fighters as a State-level festival,” she stressed.

She said that during the construction of Abbakka Bhavan, a well-equipped theatre should be constructed and the children should be informed about her story and she will also talk with the State Government to include Abbakka’s adventure story in the curriculum.
