Mangaluru: On the right-hand side of Itala Sri Somanatheshwara Temple at Daregudda in Moodabidri Taluk of the District, a Tulu inscription, which the locals call Anekallu, has been found by Study Director, Archaeological Research Centre, Udupi, S. A. Krishnaiah.
Vedamurthy Sagri Gopalakrishna Samaga from Udupi guided him to study the place, said Krishnaiah. In the wake of the renovation of the Temple, mud has accumulated around this rock and at present in this inscription there is an obscure Tulu script of lines 5 to 6 and the remaining lines are buried in the soil, he said.
Krishnaiah said that an additional study of this inscription will be done in the coming days.
Dr. Radhakrishna Bellur is of the opinion that the inscription belongs to the 12th-13th Century on the basis of the script.
Ravi Santhosh Alva and the locals have cooperated in the fieldwork.
