Mangaluru: Shipping and Ports are the backbone of the country and state economy. The New Mangalore Port Authority, a 100 per cent Solar Port, on the Karnataka coast has been the forerunner in being the most responsible, cost-effective, clean and sustainable port serving the export and import needs of the inhabitants in near and far areas of the state and hinterland of the country. Ensuring active participation of the local population and other local stakeholders in the process of port operation, NMPA has been organizing various stakeholder consultation/ awareness programmes with the help of domain experts. In this series, another workshop is being organised by NMPA on “Maritime Adversities” on 2 June 2023 (Friday) at 10 a.m. at Hotel Ocean Pearl, Mangalore. The workshop will discuss various processes and eventualities associated with shipping, the role and responsibilities of various stakeholders, preventive actions, preparedness and response systems in dealing with maritime adversities. Deputy Commissioner, DK Dist., Mangalore has kindly consented to inaugurate the workshop, whereas the other two domain experts, Capt. L.K. Panda, Nautical Advisor to Govt. of India, and Dr R.D. Tripathi, Advisor, IPA, shall be deliberating on various possibilities and situations of maritime adversities and mechanisms to respond to them.
