Shivamogga: Airport to be named after Kuvempu | Azad Times

Shivamogga: Shivamogga airport which will be inaugurated on February 27 will be named after Kannada’s great poet Kuvempu.

Kuppali Venkatappa Puttappa popularly known as Kuvempu is the first Jnanpirh awardee from Karnataka. He was born in Kuppalli in the District on December 29, 1904.

He got Jnanpith Award for his epic Ramayanadarshanam in the year 1967. In the year 1988 he was conferred with Padma Vibhushan Award.

Earlier, the State governzment wanted to name this airport after Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa,. However, now Yediyurappa himself has advised to name the airport after Kuvempu.
