Shivamogga: People in rural areas of the district facing lot of hardships owing to erratic power supply. The power is not only restricted to rural people even government departments facing same problem. Last night, while conducting post mortem of the body the power was cut at Ripponpet government hospital in Hosanagara taluk. Due to this, the doctors conducted the post-mortem in the mortuary completed their work with the help of head lamp and flashlight.

Lokeshappa (68) of Gurumat village near Ripponpet of Hosanagar taluk was found dead in his farm land. Lokeshappa has gone to his farm with his grandson. After going to the farm, they told their grandson to go home and stayed there. But as Lokeshappa did not come home even in the afternoon, Lokeshappa’s children went to look for him,but Lokeshappa was found dead.

His family members took him to Ripponpet Hospital as he may have died of heart attack. It was night when the doctor made a case took the dead body for post-mortem. It has been heard that due to the electricity problem, the doctors conducted the autopsy using head lights and mobile torches. This incident triggered huge debate in Ripponpet.

Ripponpet village in Hosanagara taluk is a Hobli center. It is an important village connecting Malenadu to the coast. Hundreds of people visit the hospital daily for their health problems. However, there is also an electrical problem along with the medical problem. Sometimes at night, the dead are brought to the mortuary. People are afraid to come here because power cut. Krishnappa, a social worker , has demanded that the concerned Gram Panchayat, MESCOM and the Health Department pay due attention.
Responding to the incident District Health Officer Dr. Rajesh Suragihalli, , said that the relatives have insisted that an autopsy be conducted at around 8:30 night .As per the instructions, the doctor has conducted the post-mortem. It is not possible to carry out an autopsy on a mobile torch. It needs light. He clarified that the body was examined under the light of a head light. Though the hospital has electricity it was not there in the mortuary.

This has been a problem since the beginning. However, the doctors there could use a generator. Also, the autopsy could be done in the morning. The District Health Officer informed that he sought a report from taluk medical officer regarding the incident.
