Chamarajanagar: A distressing incident unfolded on Saturday near the Durgamma temple on Gundal Reservoir Road in Kollegala taluk, where a lorry driver and cleaner were tragically electrocuted. This unfortunate event occurred when a lorry, carrying a substantial load of sugarcane, accidentally made contact with an overhead electric wire, resulting in the loss of two lives. The victims, identified as Chinnu, the lorry’s cleaner, and Prakash, the lorry’s driver and owner, both hailed from Angarpura village in Mandya district’s Malavalli taluk.
The tragedy unfolded when Chinnu and Prakash were in the midst of transporting sugarcane from Siddappa’s land near Gundal reservoir. Regrettably, their route coincided with a high-voltage electric wire running parallel to the road near the Durgamma temple. In an effort to evade the dangerous circumstances, both attempted to exit the lorry but were unsuccessful.
The high-power electric wire administered a fatal shock, leading to the immediate and heart-wrenching loss of both individuals. Kollegala police have initiated a case and are conducting an investigation.
