Kottigehara: A lorry fell into a gorge in Somanakadu valley late last night due to dense fog at Charmadi Ghat in Banakal police station limits. Late at night, dense fog caused a lorry transporting a load of drinking water from Puttur to Chitradurga to overturn near Prafata in Soma’s forest valley.
Fortunately, a tree halted the lorry’s descent, preventing what could have been a 1,000-foot drop. The tree’s intervention at 100 feet undoubtedly saved the lives of the driver and conductor.
In connection with this incident, a case has been filed at the Banakal police station. Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving through Charmadi Ghat.
Charmadi Ghat is characterized by its winding roads, and at night, dense fog further reduces visibility due to rainfall in the area. It is advised that drivers exercise caution and maintain reduced speeds during nighttime travel. Sub-Inspector Jambu Raj Mahajan of the Banakal police has issued an appeal to motorists to be vigilant, particularly as some sections of the retaining wall have also suffered damage.
