Udupi: ‘Government committed to provide equipment to visually challenged’ | Azad Times

Udupi: Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje has said that the Government is committed to provide the required equipment to all visually challenged in the District with the help of the Central Government and a comprehensive survey should be conducted on the equipment required for visually challenged and a list of eligible persons should be given.

She was speaking after inaugurating a social empowerment camp organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) at Basel Missionaries Memorial Auditorium in Mission Compound here on Saturday February 11.

ALIMCO is distributing free equipment to differently-abled persons across the country, she said, adding that in Udupi District, the highest number of visually challenged have been given suitable tools for smooth functioning of their day-to-day work and at present 2,144 equipments are being distributed to 1,390 visually challenged people.

State Backward Classes Commission Chairman K. Jayaprakash Hegde, Kapu MLA Lalaji R. Mendon, CMC President Sumitra Nayak, Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M., Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Prasanna, Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Sharmila, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. B. S. Nagabhushana Udupa, Women and Child Department Deputy Director Shivakumaraiah, District Handicapped Officer Rathna, Udupi Red Cross Society Chairman Basrur Rajeev Shetty and others were present.
