Ahead of the Karnataka elections, state Congress chief DK Shivakumar has come under the scanner for throwing currency notes during a rally in Karnataka. Videos show DK Shivakumar standing on a bus during the ‘Praja Dhwani Yatra’ on Tuesday, March 28, throwing bundles of Rs 500 notes onto artists who were playing music on the road below. Videos of DK Shivakumar from the Praja Dhwani Yatra show heavy crowds moving with a bus carrying Congress leaders through the streets of Srirangapatna. Artists playing drums and other instruments were part of the crowd as well, and DK Shivakumar was seen throwing bundles of money to them from atop the bus.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has slammed the Congress for DK Shivakumar’s actions. “He does everything and blatantly uses all kinds of power. He does everything and blames us (BJP). Congress thinks that the people (of Karnataka) are beggars but the people will teach them. People are the real owners,” Chief Minister Bommai said.
This happened a day before the Election Commission on Wednesday, March 29, announced the dates for the upcoming Karnataka elections and put the model code of conduct into place. Polling will take place on May 10 in the state and the results will be announced on May 13.

Announcing the dates for the upcoming elections on Wednesday, the Election Commission said that over 58,000 polling stations will be set up across the state to cater to 5.21 crore voters for elections in 224 constituencies. The gazette notification will be issued on April 13 and the last date for filing nominations will be April 20.
